So here is a thinker for you. Guy shows up last Thursday and wants my bike. Great, he gives me $500 in cash and says he will wire the rest to my account. I give him my acct number/wire routing number and we wait. Bank says it can take up to three business days. The guy is HOUNDING me all weekend. He really wants to get it in his hands. Can’t say I blame him. I keep telling him I need to wait until it posts to my account. So yesterday, bank account says it pending and I tell him we can meet the next day to sign the title over. Fast forward to today, the money is posted to my account and he hasn’ t answered any texts/phone calls for 24 hours. This is the same guy who was texting me every couple hours over the weekend asking if the wire had gone through. WTF? So I now have his money, his bike and hes not answering the phone. Is this some sort of elaborate scheme that’ s over my head?? Maybe he’ s dead? What the hell is going on????

I’m really starting to wonder. He had his GF with him on Thursday with temp plates, assumed they just moved

Subscribed.

Hopefully not dead, but jail, ‘rona, and a dead cell phone all seem within the realm of possibilities. Wait a week, then ask for his bank to try to contact him, maybe?

Makes a great story at least. Hope he’s alright. Either way, I guess it’s no problem for you to wait, unless you really need the thing out of your garage.

Did he have a no contract burner phone that’s now invalid?

That happened to me constantly when I worked at a bank, seemed like we had a certain group of customers who gave us a new phone number every couple of weeks.

You can get temp tags without a signed title and/or bill of sale?

I don’t think so. The only way in California is if you buy from a dealer. Assumed he bought from some used place, it was an infinity g35

Can’t wire transfers be reversed/otherwise go awry even after it has posted? You should make super duper extra sure with your bank that the transfer is settled before handing anything over.

I’d move all the balances into another account until you get this figured out.

He has enough info to Hoover-ACH that account dry....

Leave $5 in the account until you get it sorted.

Don’t know if you bank with Wells Fargo here in CA, but they’d leave you high-and-dry in a dispute over a bad ACH transaction. You might get the money back out of the FedWire system... eventually.. but Wells will never look out for the customer’s interests in a tussle.

Here is my theory... he needed the bike fast originally because...

The sirens were screaming and the fires were howling way down in the valley that night.
And there was a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye And a blade shining oh so bright.

There was evil in the air and there was thunder in the sky and killers on the bloodshot streets.
And down in the tunnels where the deadly were rising he saw a young boy down in the gutter who was starting to foam in the heat

So clearly he decided “ I gotta get out, I gotta break out now
Before the final crack of dawn.”

And he said to himself “like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes.
When the night is over, like a bat out of hell, I’ll be gone, gone, gone.”

But because of the payment delays, he never got the chance to see himself tearing up the road faster than any other boy has ever gone.

But on the bright side he won’t have to deal with any sudden curves until it’s way too late and end up in the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun

And instead of seeing his heart, still beating, breaking out of his body and flying away like a bat out of hell, he just went back moping around his parent’s house and watching internet porn half of the time.

Yeah, that’s the answer. The fact pattern about the guy does seem a little “sketchy”...

Hopefully he only got the flu and is out sick.

Or, else it’s tainted drug money from a cartel deal gone bad and the DEA thinks you’re the mastermind... Any “white service vans” parked on your street all week? And “clicks and static” on your phone calls.

Oh, crap, they can reverse trace MY IP connection. Damn. Gotta go!!! Good luck!

OR,

He was r eluctantly crouched at the starting line
Engines pumping and thumping in time
The green light flashes, the flags go up
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns
Their prowess is potent and secretly stern

As they speed through the finish, the flags go down
The fans get up and they get out of town
The arena is empty except for one man
Still driving and striving as fast as he can
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he’s driving and striving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

He’s going the distance
He’s going for speed
She’s all alone (all alone)
All alone in her time of need

Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He’s going the distance
No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine
He’s haunted by something he cannot define
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force
In his mind, he’s still driving, still making the grade

She’s hoping in time that her memories will fade
‘Cause he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he’s striving and driving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

‘Cause he’s going the distance
He’s going for speed
She’s all alone (all alone)
All alone in her time of need

Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He’s racing and pacing and plotting the course
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse

He’s going the distance
He’s going for speed
He’s going the distance

Maybe he wired the money from someone else’s account.

And that person has tracked him down, and you’re going to get a request to reverse the wire?

Just thinking of bad things you should watch out for.

If nothing happens by Saturday, I’ll swing by to pick up the bike and get it out of your way.

This. My boss sold a car to a guy who paid and never collected it cuz the cops busted the buyer on a warrant.

Re-list the bike and refund his money if he ever shows back up.

I know someone that had a similar situation happen many years ago. He took a $500 deposit on a vehicle, and the buyer never returned. It caused him to hold the vehicle for months before he could offer for sale again. I believe the law states that if there is no mention of number of days to pay in full and arrange pick up of the item, it must be held for a minimum of 90 days.

These laws may not exist where you are, or may have changed.
